Strange Journeys on the Internet
I stumbled upon this teenager in Virginia's flickr account (here) and it's strangely entrancing. Apparently he just takes pictures of chain stores, the interiors, the exteriors, shopping carts . . . He's even got a blog, which is all about the chain restaurants in his town.

From his Flickr profile:
"I'm an Ameican [sic] teenager who was born on the 4th of July in the early 90s, a school student, Christian. I love collecting Garfield merchandise, and I love to take photography of anything. I especially love photography of alive and vacant retails, exteriors and interiors. My favorite restaurants (in no order) are Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A, McDonald's, and Little Caesars. I also like KFC, Burger King, Papa John's, and Wendy's. My favorite stores are Wal-Mart, Target, and Kmart."

Looking through his flickr photos, I can't help but wonder what an anthropologist, a hundred years from now would think. It's like he's documenting the built environment for future people to look back and think in wonder at how we lived like this. If there was a repository of photos from fifty years ago like this it'd be treasured. All I can think of is . . . how strange.

We'll see in fifty years, now, won't we?
